IPL 2010 Kings XI Punjab vs. Chennai Super Kings (Match 16) result.
Kings XI lost wickets at regular interval when they came to the ground to bat first. Irfan Pathan and Yuvraj were the only batsmen who tried to contribute to the Punjab score. Irfan Pathan and Yuvraj managed 82 runs in the 60 balls they two faced. The rest of the Punjab batsman only managed to score 54 from the remaining 60 balls. Irfan Pathan was promoted up in the batting order. The full hope was left on him and Yuvraj. Irfan played a cracker of an innings. Yuvraj also managed to score 43 runs when he was in a situation of lack of partners. Punjab was in a desperate situation after 11 overs when they lost 4 wickets for 64 runs. But Yuvraj kept there hopes alive and helped Punjab to post a total of 136 with the loss of 8 wickets.
It will be difficult to defend 136 runs and that too in the absence of Sreesanth. Hayden was not at his best in this match. Punjab came with there new bowler Theron and he provided the turning point in the match. Chennai opening batsmen Parthiv Patel came up with a good fifty and helped Chennai to reach in a position when they neede 16 off 16 balls. Even after a good opening partnership Chennai batsmen failed to win the match in the 20 overs. It was a good last over bowled by Irfan Pathan who gave away only 9 run in the last nervous over in which Chennai needed 10 to win. Thus the match ended in a tie. But there was still one more action left, The Super Over.
Theron got the ball in the hand for bowling the Super Over for Kings XI. He bowled Hayden in the very first ball. Raina hit a six in the over to take 9 runs in the super over. Needing 10 runs of the six bowls, Yuvraj completed the game with two balls to spare. Muralitharan bowled the super over for Chennai. In fact this was one of the decision that proved wrong for Chennai.
• Kings XI Punjab- 136/8 in 20 overs.
• Chennai Super Kings- 136/7 in 20 overs.
• Kings XI Punjab won the match in super over.
